Discussion: Cookware > defective flatware
7 of 9
I was just looking at flatware at bad, abth and beyond. A sales lasy approached me and told me not to purchase flatware under 18/10 which is 18 chrome and 10 nickle. She said it would rust. Well either I only know people with expensive silverware or that is not true. I have never seen flatware rust..unless it was dollar store flatware. This lady also told me not to use any dish detergent containing lemon because that would rust the flatware. I have never wittnessed this either.

Funny thing is my flatware is 18/10 and it was rusting. I took the set back and Bed, Bath, & Beyond replaced it with another set of the same (I wanted the same design). The replacement set is proving to have less rust problems, but still minor rusting marks on 2-3 pieces. I decided to use a scrubby to see if I could remove the impurities. I'm still waiting to see if the rust comes back after attempting to scrub away the pock mark impurities. Hopefully I've scrubbed hard enough to remove the problem areas.

I have a 8/8 stainless steel spoon holder (holder keeps messy cooking utensiles from laying directly on stove). I've washed that spoon holder for the last 3 years in the dishwasher without any rusting problems. That shoots down the rust claim of that sales person.
