I am in the same boat, guys! I need a new garage-door, and there's NO info anywhere. I found some article saying that the last review done by CS was 7 years ago!!!!
So far, this is what I have found:
- There are 4 options for openers: Chain (Noisy), Screw (less noisy), Belt (almost no noise) and side-wall mounted openers (virtually no sound).
Chamberlein LiftMaster has the only side-mounted opener I have seen (around $400 without installation). If you check Jay Leno's Garage website, he has a video of one, and gives good details about it. I can't install one at my place because you need at least 8" clearance on the sides of the door, and I don't.
Maintenance- grease once a year for chain and screw operators. Not sure if the belt one needs that. But all options recommend a once a year inspection.
1/2 HP vs 3/4 HP - Price difference is minimal, so I chose a 3/4, just because the garage-door has insulation, so it's a little heavy...
