Hello and thanks for the help in advance
I love taking macro pictures of flowers and am looking for the best point and shoot. Was looking at the Sony Cyber-shot HX9....that has 16.2 megapixels and 16x optical zoom. I would lie to be able to enlarge the photos and have them as sharp as possible. Price range need to be +-300.00
Thanks - Christy
There are two ways to get a macro image...(defined here)
1) Get a true macro lens or P&S camera with a true macro lens which allows you to get very close to the image.. Typically these lenses are rated as 1:2 or better yet 1:1. THis will allow a image that fills the entire frame with the object. In this case the number of mpixels does not matter much. An alternative is to get a lens modifier which allows you to emulate a macro lens (special filters).
2) you could get a camera which allows you to get reasonably close to the image and then crop the image to allow the desired object to fill the frame. In this case more mpixel would be helpful (16 is good).
In either case lighting is critical as you will need lots of light in a manner that does not create shadows.
John Curry is the expert in this forum on P&S cameras. (your budget would indicate that you are in this category.) There are some cameras such as the pentax Optio wg1 which have a built in macro light. If you can find a similar feature in a non water proof camera I would recommend that as the waterproof cameras tend to make tradeoffs between image quality and being waterproof.
